I have a QuiQ (Yellow in colour)36volt battery charger and it stopped working. Took it to the local golf shop to see what the problem was. He said that the diodes were burnt and needed to be replaced but not sure if he could fix it or if he could get the parts. Ended up buying a new charger as we needed the cart for the week as we had friends coming over from the UK on holiday. The new charger (QuiQ Blue in colour)cost me $1000 and I really don't this one to go wrong. He did tell my wife when she went to pick up the new charger that if we did not want the damaged charger he could use it for parts. However she forgot to tell me until yesterday when I asked where the old charger was. What can go wrong with these chargers? We are acceptable to power cuts and I was thinking that old charger went wrong when the power came back on. My other concern is with the cart plugged in and we have a power failure and the power is restored with the cart and charger still plugged in can it damage the charger and cart batteries. If it can is there a solution to this problem. IF the diodes are fried can I get spares for it and is it difficult to repair if that is the only problem.

New diodes are fairly cheap here. If you can read the numbers on the old ones, you just go to Radio Shack and order them. I don't know anything about suppliers in South Africa, though. I can't imagine that if you have internet access and a credit card you can't get diodes. I would definitely get that old charger back, though. If nothing else, it would make a good backup after being repaired.

My guess would be that the charger was damaged by an electrical surge, if you have an unreliable power grid. Surge protectors are also fairly inexpensive here. I don't know anything about your power supply, so I really can't be of much more help than that.

$1,000 for a charger? Wow! I certainly hope that is just an exchange differential. For $1,000, I'd try building my own charger.

Thank you for your reply I will get my wife to pick up the charger and will once I get home (In Abu Dhabi at the moment) will take to friend and see what can be done with it. Unfortunately that is the price one has to pay in SA.
