I think the bellows just rip over time. Mine is ripped on my 86 CC DS. I'm no that worried about it.

3 front ends, 3 torn bellows......they ain't cheap either.......i greased mine good and taped it up......

Dry rotted rubber causes the bellows to rip.

I just spent the last hour messing with what I think is the adjustment and it did not help. What I messed with was the rod on the left of the steering rack.

There are tabs welded onto each spindle used for steering stops. They should hit the A-Arm to limit steering travel in both directions. Make sure this happens. Also, check your toe setting. It should be toed in 1/8"
