new guy, need shifter help
Hey all. Names chris. I'm the new owner (to me) of a Yamaha g9. Its got a bunch of stuff done to it including a big lift and 24" tires. Along with some motor work. My issue is the shifter acts up and its a pain to get to change gears at times or into "N". I was told if I got a shifter kit with new cables it would help. My issue is Jakes only lists for the g14 and up. Can I make this work on my g9? If not are there any other options? Thanks Chris

Re: new guy, need shifter help
Does it grind or is it just stiff? If just stiff you could try to lubricate the cables first. If it grinds you may need to adjust the idle down or the cables may need some adjustment.

Neither it just doesn't go into gear. Thought this cart has been extremely modded. And not stock motor. It also doesn't shut off on its own when you let off the gas. And isn't supposed to. You actually turn the key to start and turn it over like a car. But the way it was worded to me was, the cables are now too short because of how much lift is on it.

Re: new guy, need shifter help
If your car has Plowman clutches and shorter belt, it may have not want to shift due to the short belt. Mine, you have to thrust you body forward and backward sometimes to free the belt from keeping pressure against the gears. Especially if you stop on an incline.

Re: new guy, need shifter help
Since your not sure what you've got, I'd start by lubing the shifter cables with a spray lub. Gently pull the rubber boots off the end of the cables (at the shifter) and spray the lub into both cable liners.

Re: new guy, need shifter help
May be a good idea to find the guy that built the cart and talk to him about it.
