testing a voltage regulator

I think my voltage regulator might be bad.Can someone tell me how I can check that with a meter.Its a 95 club car

Hook your meter up to your battery, run the cart, and see what voltage you have. It should be roughly 14 to 15 VDC. If you do not have that voltage you can disconnect the small yellow (I think it's yellow) wire off of the top of the start/gen. Take a jumper wire and jump from that stud on the start/gen to ground on the cart. Run the cart again and check voltage. If you have like 15 to 16+ VDC then your regulator is bad. If you are running only battery voltage your start/gen charging circuit is bad.

I did what it says and my reading is 12.32 and not moving

I'm assuming your checking this on your battery?... If so, it just proves that it's not charging. It doesn't narrow it down between the Starter/Generator or the Voltage Regulator.... yamahag9er hit the nail on the head with his post. Do that procedure and it'll give you an answer as to which part is bad.

ok.everything tested points to the voltage regulator.The first test I was only getting 12.5 0n the meter,now with new regulator I am getting between 14-15.The battery tested good.My wife drove it around last night for a long time,this morning I went to use it and when I gave it the gas it went about 2ft and stopped.I waited a min. and tried it again the same thing.It will start up and I can idle it but when I step down it doesnt move.Could the ingnitor be bad or is it something else

It could be anything... by "idle" I'm guessing you mean that the engine is turning over with the starter, and not actually running... You need to confirm that you've got a spark at the plug before we proceed.

I think what it was is a loose wire on the ingitor
