Club car ds 48volt
When going down a hill it seems my cart slows its self down. Can anyone explain why it does this and how to prevent it from doing it.

Re: Club car ds 48volt
The 48 volt DS cart was manufactured with 4 different drive systems (with potentially 3 different answers to your question)....
You have to advise year/serial number or identify the drive system among the following possibilities: 48v Series 48v Regen-1 48v Regen - 2 48v IQ System If serial# not handy - you can start by looking HERE |

Re: Club car ds 48volt
OK - half way there. It could be either Regen 2 (easy to eliminate regen braking) or IQ (only slightly trickier to eliminate). Do you know the exact year? The serial number (located high on floorboards near passenger foot area) will determine that - or the controller appearance (located under seat usually above & behind where passenger sits - mounted to the frame).

Re: Club car ds 48volt
A lot of people disable it - those who don't disable it, like the convenience of using pedal-up braking when descending windy and slightly steep downhill paths. It keeps the cart slower using the motor rather than riding the brake.
Edit: Series carts don't even have regen braking (but aren't made anymore). Given these carts are designed for golf - hilly golf courses want their rental-patrons to "control themselves" on tricky downhill paths. Helps avoid lawsuits & wrecked carts etc. |

Re: Club car ds 48volt
Regen braking won't completely "recharge" the batteries,
when coasting down a hill, the electric motor will turn into a generator and it sends the unused power back to the batteries. So... consider it more of a "top off"! You'd need a really long hill to actually "recharge" the pack! |

Re: Club car ds 48volt
Pretty much what Don said. It's not going to charge your pack by any means, but it does put some juice back in. I observe this on my cart with my SOC meter when the regen kicks in. The voltage momentarily rises into the mid 50s...

Re: Club car ds 48volt
If it is an IQ system you can use a speed magnet which will increase top speed and eliminate regen.
