Default 2001 EZGO Electric Headlights Voltage only 8v

The headlights used to work but now they don't and I only get around 8v on the light switch when the lights are off. A technician told me that I need 12v and that my problem is probably a bad ground, etc. Unfortunately I couldn't follow his technical explanation and hope someone can guide me as to how the headlights are supposed to be wired from the batteries.

You need to trace the wires from the light switch and lights back to the voltage source. It is hard to guess how they might be connected. If you have 6 volt batteries it is common practice to wire lights across two batteries in the bank to get 12 volts. This is not a good way to get 12 volts because it will cause problems with the batteries not getting equal charge. Also in a golf cart there should be no connection to the metal frame as is common to connect the negative terminal to the chassis in automobiles. So the voltage you measure would need to be made between the origin of the connections feeding the light circuit and not the metal frame of the cart. Some carts use a electronic voltage reducer to get 12 volts from the battery bank main positive and negative voltage source. Hope this helps.
