I have also seen the person on ebay who claims heat shrink is a corrosion catcher, he is obviously not very good at what he does. Heat shrink is what keeps it out. If it was a corrosion catcher, then insulated cable would be the biggest corrosion catcher in the world.

As to making cables, by the time you get everything together you could buy a set done for you. The average Precedent set for the batteries is less than $40.
What about an entire set?

Where I live 2ga cable is about 40.00 for a 25 ft roll. The copper ends are about 2.00 for a pack of 2. My cart has 10 cables about 15 feet of cable. These prices are just from my best memory.

I'm somewhat of a welder and just enjoy making my own. Never had a problem with them on aircraft, auto or golf carts. I use heat shrink after I clean the solder job with brush and cleaner.

That is just my way.

Bring your cart to me and I'll make the cables and put them on.

My shop rates are 75.00 per hour.

I'm really not in any business, I retired 7 years ago and don't do hard labor.

I do sometimes help friends out.

If you were in my neck of the woods (NM), I wouldn't of minded the help! Haha. I'm going to try to make my own, if it don't work, that's $45 down the drain and I still have my old cables. Then if anything, I'll buy new next year when I replace the batteries.

I recently made myself a set as well. I crimped mine, and covered them with heat shrink. On all the connection points, I use a "No-Ox" compound that we use on high voltage terminations. This is the crimper we use, one of the benefits to being an industrial HV electrician

That is a nice Crimping Tool

Any of the top industry brands have great products: Thomas & Betts, Burndy, FTZ, etc...

They all have matching dies, lugs (typically color coded) and charts that tell you which die to use depending if it is a flare, heavy wall or regular lug.

Out of the professional crimpers, I think the FTZ 94284 model is the most economical and produces quality crimps when everything is matched properly.

FTZ is based in Simpsonville, South Carolina.

Even if you just hit the connector with a hammer it will pass current, but if You are using 2ga cable because you anticipate needing the current carrying capacity, component choice, sizing and procedures get a lot more critical.

This is a site for DIY, so there is nothing wrong in trying to make your own cables, we are just trying to share information for You to make Your own decision.
