89 Marathon toaster oven conversion.
I've had my cart roughly 2.5 years. I've done lots to it. I haven't done a build thread but, plan on tearing it down in the spring and posting as I go. More on that later. Now, it's time for the upgrade I've been waiting on and wanting the most. I'm converting my cart from a toaster oven, to a modern day, solid state system! I'm going to do my best to give a review and some performance results.
I bought the kit from Scotty B at carts unlimited. I have been thoroughly impressed with his service. I went with package C54. It comes with a 500 amp controller, heavy duty solenoid, potentiometer, and all the linkage and hardware. You even get a free digital battery meter. I also bought a heavy duty F&R switch to replace my worn out one. The box had plenty of fragile stickers and about 10 square feet of styrofoam protecting the goods! First thing in the morning I am going to begin the install. I'll be back with results. |

That was one of my first. I went with a 1/0 welding lead. They're crimped for now. Going to fill with solder when I do my rebuild.

Batteries out. Carriage still looks good, just dirty. I replaced the whole thing with 1"x3/16" angle when I first got the cart.

Re: 89 Marathon toaster oven conversion.
Well, my first suggestion to anyone wanting to do this conversion, penetrating fluid! Spray it on everything coming off. If you're doing this, your cart is obviously old. That means rust! 26 years of rust and dirt don't help anything. Besides that, everything is going good so far. I tend to overthink things but, this is simple. Once you realize what is what and how things go, it's a breeze. Everything old is out, new throttle linkage is in. Controller box, solenoid, and pot are bolted to their mounts. Lunch break now and then back at it!
