Auto ramps
I have a cart that is stock...no lift kit.
Anyone use some car auto ramps to get a little more height when trying to work under the cart? Would these be safe to use? I am not a motor head at all so all this is new to me. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Auto ramps
It's safe enough. When I tried to use them I found that because the wheel base is short and narrow it didn't help much. I ended up having to work around the ramps.

Re: Auto ramps
I had a car jack from HF with some jack stands.
Another thing when using jack stands is you might want to throw a tire under it just in case it moves off the jack stands. 750 lbs sitting on your chest is no fun. |

Re: Auto ramps
I just cut up a 2*8 into 4 pieces long enough to drive a on each one. Helps give me some more clearance.

If using Jack stands, do you just place them one on each side of the axle? Is it better to place under the frame?
Just want to be safe, I don't like putting myself under things that are suspended in air. And the last thing I want to do is become one of those infamous YouTube videos of what not to do. :) Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Auto ramps
If you have a floor jack ( 1.5 ton) from HF then raise the cart and put the jack stands under each wheel with the ramps facing away from the cart in front and back to give a little more room (in front) If using jack stands be sure they are solidly supporting the cart.
If removing the tires... slide the removed wheel assembly under the cart with you. Place it where if the cart should fall you will still have 8" to live. I was in a wrecking yard on a cross country trip... Under a van removing a master cylinder for our van. My wife looked under and said are you sure that's safe? 'Safe enough' I said. She stacked 2 bare rims close to me under the van. 15 seconds later the van fell on the rims stopping inches from my face. Be careful under there. If you have any doubt if it's safe, grab the cart, and push and shove on it to see if it fall before you get underneath. |

Re: Auto ramps
I use ramps the inclines haven't been a pain, but working around them does come into play for what all I was doing... but I like the idea of it being lifted on a solid state and not suspended... I also have used my 3 ton floor jack and then used cinder blocks.

Re: Auto ramps
I find that jack stands are cheap insurance and easier to store than ramps.

Re: Auto ramps
HF has a 3 ton floorjack on special for under $100.00, I think it was about $70.00. it's a fast pump, I've got a pair of ramps but very seldom use them on the carts.
Also don't buy the cheap jackstands |
