DS VIN plate
I just picked up a Club Car DS 36v a few weeks ago. I'm trying figure out what year it is to order some parts but the VIN has me really confused. The VIN is GC0070129697. Is there any other place Club Cart stamped a VIN? From a Google search GC means it should be a AWD gas cart for California. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: DS VIN plate
Yeah... something isn't right!
It's not an actual Club Car tag, because it should look like this: (click/tap pics to enlarge) 051.jpg 052.jpg The only thing that comes close are the kiddie corner mounting screws! In 1997, CC changed from the black metal tag, to a white vinyl bar code tag! But, just for the heck of it, I'll break it down... GC = AWD, gas, Carryall 00 = 2000 (year) 70 = production week It's pretty obvious that it's not a 2000 Carryall! The "GC" letters weren't issued by Club Car until 2003, and there's only 52 production weeks in a year! Club Car started to add a second serial number tag under the center dash (I think) around late 2000... You "might" be able to see if there's a tag there by looking up through the front suspension before removing the custom dash that you have. Serial Number 2nd location 008.jpg But to me? yours looks older than a 2000, so it may not have a secondary tag! |

Re: DS VIN plate
Thank you for confirming that I'm not crazy..even though I did buy this cart! It had brand new batteries and the price was right at $1300 though, (I saw some real expensive junk ).
Been going through the wiring and finding a few issues with bare wires and lights not fused. One brake cable needs to be replaced, a tire leaks down but I plan to put in a inner tube to solve that. I determined to bring it back to its glory. So happy to find this site! Have been reading and the members are willing to help and share their knowledge. Really nice to see. |

Re: DS VIN plate
There is are no coils that I can see. The cover is missing for the rear and the terminals are exposed, I plan on cleaning them up and replacing the cover. Behind the dash I found a relay that is corroded, probably why the turn signals don't work.
The charger is wired in directly and plug in under the seat. I'll try the fix a flat for the leak. It's coming from the bead, I tried to break the bead and clean up the corrosion with a wire brush but all I did was make it leak a little slower now. |

Re: DS VIN plate
It's a 93 or 94. Club Car only offered a 36 volt car with a solid state controller during those two years. All the 36 volt cars prior to and after these two years were resistor cars.
I'll add that this is the first time I've EVER seen an ADC 36 volt motor. The motor has obviously been changed out at some point in the life of the vehicle. The ADC motor is far superior than the GE motor that this vehicle would have come with from the factory. A 48 volt conversion on this cart would be extremely simple because it's already setup with an actual multi-step potentiometer. The only thing that you'd need to change would be the controller, the solenoid, the batteries, and the charger. That 36 volt motor would be perfectly fine with 48 volts pushing it. |
