Re: Club Car completely dead
Ok. I got pack up to 46 volts. The charger will not turn on. Reset OBC by disconnecting neg for 20 mins. Is there a static test for charger? Any other ideas before I buy a charger?
Thanks all !! M |

Re: Club Car completely dead
I am assuming You are not hearing the charger relay click.
Disconnect the "sense wire" fuse holder an check the fuse (#9 in the picture below): http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...receptacle.jpgIf the fuse is OK, run the charger receptacle side of the sense wire directly to pack negative. Plug the charger and see if the relay clicks and if it runs. |

Re: Club Car completely dead
Nope no click and no needle movement. I checked the fuse and wire and it is solid. I will try jumping wire tomorrow, if nothing I have found a charger, but it is a hour and a half away.
Thank you ! M |

Re: Club Car completely dead
So I am getting the picture here. The 3rd pole on charger cord provides a neg signal when the OBC senses that the pack needs charged. It removes the neg when the pack is charged and the charger shuts off. To charge pack manually you need to provide the neg, but you basically have to physically remove charger plug when pack is charged or replace the OBC to get it working again if OBC is bad. Going to figure out OBC part number just in case.
Thanks !! M |

Re: Club Car completely dead
Correct, and the jumper wire is just to check if the problem is the OBC or the charger box.
If the OBC is bad, get a smart charger instead of replacing it. |

Re: Club Car completely dead
Great info. Is there a good inexpensive smart charger? I will be flipping the nickel here as money is tight for this USAF service member. Noticed the 101909901 OBC is ~$225. If I buy a smart charger do I have to bypass the OBC on this series cart?
Sorry for so many questions, I really appreciate the help. M |

Re: Club Car completely dead
A DPI charger is just a little more from cartsunlimited.net, and you can sell the Powerdrive2 box easily for the difference.
You would need to by-pass the OBC lockout, but that is pretty simple on a Series cart. First make sure the problem is the OBC and not the charger relay. |

Re: Club Car completely dead
Isn't cartsunlimited.net Scotty's business? That is where I bought most all of my stuff for this cart. I like that he supports this forum so much!! I will isolate the issue this morning. If it is the OBC then I will order a charger from Scotty. I seen the bypass for IQ/Excel in sticky.
"For the Series carts You just have to disconnect the Yellow wire from the OBC and run it directly from Solenoid to controller B- (or other negative source like pack negative)." So all I would do is connect yellow wire to neg battery lead? Sounds too simple :-) Thanks !! M |

Re: Club Car completely dead
Additional question. If it is the OBC, then can I use bypass to charge batteries on a timer until ScottyB gets back from holiday?

Re: Club Car completely dead
Yes You can manually charge the batteries if You either by-pass the relay inside the charger or the sense wire inside the cart.
The catch is that the only way the batteries got completely dead is if you have a parasitic load on the cart. Even if the OBC or Charger had failed, the batteries would not go dead in 6 months. |
