1999 DS -- Suddenly Slow
First post. New User.
I have a 99 DS. 48v, 4-12v setup initially and now upgraded to Lithium Packs. Stock components for everything else. Initially the cart ran around 20mph. Had body painted so I had to disconnect a few things to get it off, and on terminal reconnect the battery sparked more than usual (it seemed) and now the cart on runs maybe 10mph? Found I had a dead or shorted battery and switched to the Lithium Packs. The speed has not gone back up to around 20 or at all? The only thing that changed was the "large" spark.... and it ran slow. Tested with manual volt meter and Lithium packs are perfect. Speed has not gone back up? What else could be hindering the speed? Can the controller be "shorted" in some way but still function at 50%? Can the Solenoid be damaged and still give 50%? Can the F/R switch have any impact? I'm obviously at a loss with new Batts and speed not back to normal. |

Is that a regen cart or does it have the dynamic brake resistor coil?

We can get you started by covering the basic questions. What is the first part of your carts serial number? This helps to determine what type of cart you have. What is the voltage of the battery pack at rest and also while it’s moving?

What controller is in this cart? Is it a Curtis 1204-410?

Re: 1999 DS -- Suddenly Slow
Serial start A9910
Curtis Cont 1204-410 I don't remember the running volts, but the Lithium packs are new and all cell volts are fully balanced. Charged resting voltage for the pack is 50.4v |

Re: 1999 DS -- Suddenly Slow
I'm guessing that you have half-speed reverse enabled even when going forward. The throttle connects to the controller between the green wire on push-on terminal #2 and the yellow wire on push-on terminal #3. Disconnect those two wires from the controller and measure the resistance between them. The resistance should be about 5K ohms with the pedal up and zero ohms with the pedal down.
An alternate method would be to measure the voltage between the M- blade on the controller and the B- blade. The voltage should be about 48 volts when the pedal is pushed just enough to engage the solenoid and the voltage should decrease to zero when the pedal is pushed all the way to the floor. If the voltage only goes down to about 24 volts, the controller is running at half-speed. Last edited by biphase; 04-30-2018 at 05:05 PM.. Reason: mistaken voltage |

Re: 1999 DS -- Suddenly Slow
I definitely got a deep dive response on that one...
If the half speed is enabled now for some odd reason, how does one enable full speed? I didn't remove any individual wires when removing the body, just the F/R as a whole. Nothing came unplugged as far as I know. I live in the Mesa area Redbeardcc |
