Purpose of the solenoid pre-charge resistor on the precedent.
I’m wondering if one of you can tell me with respect to the club car Precedent solenoid what exactly does the pre-charge resistor do?

A pre-charge resistor is a device that slowly charges the capacitors inside a electronic speed controller before it is powered up. Without this resistor, closing the contactor would generate a large amount of inrush current causing the contacts to arc.*

Re: Purpose of the solenoid pre-charge resistor on the precedent.
It provides a small amount of current flow around the solenoid to keep the capacitors in the Controller charged. This is needed so the controller is ready as soon as you press the Go Pedal and there is no delay or spike in current flow to the controller. It is needed with the stock controllers, but aftermarket like an Alltrax XCT on Sepex carts do not use them as the Pre-Charge is handled thru the controller by means of the Run/Tow switch.
