Default Speed idea, Regen 2

I need to slow down a Regen 2 cart. (long story, don't ask)

As it is, it's totally stock and everything works. I just need it to be slower, and I need it to not go as fast DOWN hill. The downhill braking works as it should, but its still pushing the envelope a bit. I know I can change the length of the throttle rod and get the overall speed slower, but it's still able to coast full speed down hill before the hill braking slows it down.

Short of a controller swap, any ideas on how I can lower the speed limit on this thing?

Perhaps adjust the brake drums tighter? Of course you’d have to routinely adjust as needed. But this would slow the cart down automatically when lifting the throttle.

Sounds like you don't have the dynamic braking system working (coil resistor & solenoid). It's a separate system from hill brake on that model. Is the speed sensor unplugged? Sure sounds like it!

Speed sensor is plugged in and functional.
The dynamic braking does work. I have 4 of these carts and they all have functional dynamic braking. Used to have one that didn’t and it was scary !

But that can only do so much. We have hills steep and long enough the dynamic braking just doesn’t quite cut it.

Maybe you could cut the coil for the dynamic breaking down by an inch or two that might help slow it down

That is going to be difficult on that old system, pedal up brake only slows the cart from 12mph to 9mph, partially because the early Regen systems were not very effective.

I would not mess with the Dynamic Brake resistor (if you even have one as they removed the external resistor from the later regen-2 systems) as it will also increase the current through the controller and would still disable at 9mph.

Does Reverse provide the forward speed and coasting speed you need?

If so you could use the "Reverse" all the time and install 2 x SPDT relays to make a reversing contactor setup for the F1 and F2 connections.

You could use the existing FNR switch to toggle the relays.

It would cost less than $15 if the reverse provides the speed You need.

I hadn't really thought about that, but I'm not sure I wanna try going full speed reverse down the hill to find out! It might make for a good viral video though!

I think he was pointing to wiring it to go the same speed the reverse does through the use of a relay but still going forward.

That's no fun though.

HAve to test first to verify that is slow enough.

Take a video. We'll all be waiting for your results and the video so we can judge for ourselves if we think it's slow enough
