Need advice for clays cart
I am a newbie. I have a 2005 Precedent with four 12 volt batteries. Used it around the neighborhood. I shoot sporting clays, and want a cart for that. (Off road) Most of the clays carts I see are gas. Would I be better off trading my electric cart for gas? Do you think I'll have enough power with the four 12 volt set up? Any other advise welcome.

Re: Need advice for clays cart
How far will you drive in a day shooting clays? How rough is the terrain? How big are the hills....or is it mainly flat?
That will help determine if an electric will serve your needs. A gasser you can drive a long time on a tank of fuel....and take extra if needed. Electric will need considerable time to recharge. I have had both and they both serve you well, but it depends on your need. Give us the info above and I am sure you will get many opinions. Good luck!!! |

Re: Need advice for clays cart
The terrain around here is pretty flat, no hills. Mounds perhaps. 2 - 3 miles max. Lots of start and stop. I want to install a lift and larger tires too. I will probably have 2 - 4 persons on the cart too. With the added weight of larger tires and people, ammo, etc. I'm just wondering.

Re: Need advice for clays cart
You should have no problem going the 2-3 miles. I would think with it flat easy 10+ miles.
Make sure you get the heavy duty leaf springs on the back when you lift the cart. Lots of good lift kits out there, Jakes and All Sports are top notch. I have the 6 inch All Sports a-arm lift and love it. Good luck with your build! |

Re: Need advice for clays cart
Just went through the same thing with my new 07 PDS. I shoot sporties and will have 4 people on my cart a lot. The best thing I did was upgrade my controller and wires. Now I can climb some decent hills with 3 to 4 people on it. As far as making it around the course I can't imagine a course that it wouldn’t make.

Controller? Remember I'm a newbie. I had seen somewhere here that I should upgrade the wires. Please explain what the controller is and, thanks for your reply.

Re: Need advice for clays cart
The controller is the brain box under the run/tow switch cover. I would talk to Scotty B at cartsunlimited.net he and his site really helped me out. I can tell you that I installed a 400 amp alltrax controller, 22" wheels, 2gauge wires and heavy duty springs and am very happy with the cart and what it can do on the sporties course. Now I need to figure out my gun rack and it is done; sorta!

Re: Need advice for clays cart
Here's a pretty nice CC Precedent I built for a clay shooter. We went with a 500amp alltrax and a 10hp motor, that thing would fly.
