Default Strange charging issues

I have my 08 Prescedent with old (5yr) Trojans , as I have stated before my run times are very quick now before my charge light comes on. Lately I have heeded the advice of a few here who have instructed me not to run it with old batteris cause of the damage that might occur.

Well, today I simply unplugged the charger for 10 mins or so.. as soon as I plugged it back in , it charged for like 3 hours and I could see the charge light faintly flickering. I unplugged the charger and went here to start this thread to ask what's going on if anyhting.

It seems strange that If the batteries were fully charged, the charger was left plugged in,.. I unplug it for 10 mins and when I plug it back up it charges for 3 + hours?? what is that?

Do you have lights or any other accessories? If so, do you have a voltage reducer so that your accessories are utilizing all batteries or are you running you accessories off of one battery?

Often when accessories are run off of one battery it will get "out of balance" with the pack. When you charge, that battery never gets completely charged and will cause a problem like you are seeing. You can charge that battery separately with a regular 12v charger to bring the pack back in balance. We all "should" use a voltage reducer like the one I have linked to but often we do not to save a few bucks.

Yes I have a light bar on the roof and headlights up front. All lights run off of the 4 / 12 volt Trojans. I rarely run the lights , does that matter?

You know I think you're on to something because I can run the cart for 30 mins or so and it never chargs bak-up for more than a few hours before it shuts off, as if it's fully charged. Never ever has it charged for the 12 to 16 hours like some here say it takes, maybe 3 to 4 hours tops.

If your lights run off of all 4 batteries than you must have a voltage reducer so the batteries should be in balance. Without the reducer, a little use every week over a year or more can cause this problem.
