Default 87 club car has plenty of power in reverse

Hi my 87 36v club car has been giving me problems climbing hills. I checked the batteries and 5 out of the 6 were bad. I replaced the batteries and tried it and still had problems climbing hills. It would slow down but not stop. It would make it up the hill but just barely. I went down to the bottom of the hill and turned around, when I put it in reverse I spun the tires. I tried to go up the hill in reverse and it made it without a problem I went down again with someone riding with me. Now it's like 500 lbs riding on the cart. Came right on up, didn't even slow down. Why nwould I have power to spare in reverse and not forward? Can I switch some wires around?

Sounds to me like you have forward wired to just 3 batteries which is normally the reverse wire up and you have the full pack going thru reverse. That would cause this type of senario.
