Yeah I see what your saying...even if equally rated the extra 2 8V up the overall ah ratings

If torque is what you are after I would stick with your batteries and buy a higher amperage controller.. Torque is addicting!!!!

Each individual cell is what makes up the total voltage of the pack and that does not differ so I wonder why people think that 6 8V are so much better than 4 12V? You still have 24 cells and they dont care whether there are 6 or 4 of them attached to each other. With brand new batteries your going to be pleased with how they run because they will have more push then your old ones.
The same reason 6Volt batteries last longer than 8Volt batteries.... Larger cells. There is MUCH more volume in 6 8 volt batteries than in 4 12 volt batteries. I can't remember the exact different but I want to say it's either 8oz or 10oz larger cells in the 8v vs the 12v

Regardless of the voltage the motor wants to draw 100% of the available amperage which is why we use speed controllers to limit them.

A good 6v battery will have 220 amp hours (ah)
a good 8v battery 190 ah
a good 12v battery 150 ah

Each of these three packs below= 48 volts.
8/6v
6/8v
4/12v
The voltage is the same.... Look at the AH and here is where the difference comes in:
8/6v = 1760 ah
6/8v = 1140 ah
4/12v = 600 ah

I think that is self explanatory

Scotty,

You show AH numbers in a parallel battery system. When you series a battery the AH rating stays the same.

Still you are absolutely right the AH is what gives extra run time. I quote from you:
A good 6v battery will have 220 amp hours (ah)
a good 8v battery 190 ah
a good 12v battery 150 ah

When we series these batteries (48v) we get the following average AH ratings (depends on battery manufacture actual ratings):
8/6v = 220 ah
6/8v = 190 ah
4/12v = 150 ah

As mentioned earlier, larger cells, not the number of cells is the main benefit of swapping from 4/12 to 8/6.

If you had room for 8/12 you could end up with a 300 Ah pack when wired in a series/parallel configuration and have extreme run time.

Oh yes, my bad series vs parallel!?
You still have the difference of 220ah vs 180ah or 150ah. Thanks

scottyb, are you saying that the larger battery will fit in my standard precedent tray?

Not sure I understand, but, the battery with the higher rating is not necessarily larger, for instance, the T890 has the same dimensions as the T875. The difference is that the T890 has larger plates and greater weight, as lead is denser than water it weighs more.

But without a conversion I doubt you will fit 8 volts in your cart. But once converted you could do either T875 or T890.

OH yea, AND GO GIANTS!
