I bet you've got the i2 model.... Where's your serial number sticker? In the passenger dash or on the passenger kick-panel? i2 cars have different front underbodies.

Yep. It's an i2. That explains the shallow tray. Definitely can't get a battery in there without rigging up a support for the bottom of it somehow.
