Re: Resistor, Controller, Series, PDS, DCS, AC, Medalist, Marathon, TXT...
i personally will search for a week before asking a question thats been answered...lol
i do notice the search function here brings up keyword matches, but if you google the question it usually brings you here and narrows it down better i guess you cant be afraid to ask a question, especially on this site where there are so many great people willing to share there knowledge. A section with a basic common problem and answer would be great, but a lot of problems can have similar symptoms. im not sure i even stayed on track with the original post someone who will stay unnamed (out of love and maybe slight fear she will see this) snoring woke me at 4am so i may be slighty mentally challenged right now |

Glad you weren't offended virtualy. My point was the list you ask for is already available. In a sense. If you refer to the stickies you'll find almost every major component discussion has been stored there. One of the most common is the drive identifier. When one refers to that, they not only learn how to tell what kind of drive system they have but they also get a visual of the various drive systems. Including parts like the controller, solenoid and F&R, (forward and reverse switch). The manuals have illustrations for all the components and the index will take you right to the pages with those illustrations. Everything you ask for has been done. So, short of re-doing it in a slightly different format, it's already avaliable.
PS: you probably came to Dover for the same reason I lived in Southern California for a year. |

Re: Resistor, Controller, Series, PDS, DCS, AC, Medalist, Marathon, TXT...
Granted, a glossary of commonly used terms, acronyms and abbreviations would be useful, but entering it into the forum's search function will list numerous posts it has been used in and a definition can usually be found in those posts, as well as its usage in context.
A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) would also be useful, and relatively easy to compile, but due to all the variables that exist, many of the answers to seemingly simple questions would be so convoluted and complex they would more than likely cause greater confuse rather than convey useful knowledge. I'm fairly decent at troubleshooting cart problems because I used to teach troubleshooting, have a diverse engineering background and have repaired electronic and electromechanical devices for over fifty years, but I have to know which one of the myriad of possible combinations the symptoms apply to in order to troubleshoot a malfunction. For example: "Why doesn't the solenoid click when I push the pedal?" Off the top of my head, I can think of eight stock wiring configurations of the solenoid activation circuit, plus there may be variations due to aftermarket components being used. So the answer to the ten word question would be at least eight paragraphs long, have several embedded notes and some footnotes as well. Of course, the short answer is that the solenoid activation circuit isn't being completed, but that really isn't much help to someone trying to fix their cart. As for asking questions: the only dumb questions are the ones that aren't asked. Just my 2 cents. |

Re: Resistor, Controller, Series, PDS, DCS, AC, Medalist, Marathon, TXT...
I have been pondering some of this conversation for the last few days and I came up with a solution.
The solution is really simple actually and it's only because the designers of this forum have such a great search engine. Unfortunately the info gets lost because most all of us do not "Tag" our threads. It's a good thing replies can't be tagged, unless they are of your own post, or it would water down the search engine. Instead of having a huge thread of common issues like I started, instead we need the community of people to actively "Tag" proper solutions, skills, work arounds, and etc. every thread allows up to 5 "Tags". The tags are what the forums search engine uses to feed back results. Misuse of the tag feature will water down the search engine but if users rate helpful posts than the search engine will take that into consideration to put it closer to the top of a search hit. So, in essence. Johnnie and Scotty. Get posting and tag those answers in your own threads. |
