Default 2008 RXV makes a awlful sound when brakes are applied

Good afternoon from sunny florida.New neighbor down the street stopped by to look at my cart. when he pulled I noticed a gringing sound almost like gears slipping oner each other from his rearend area. I got to looking around at it and did'nt really see anything. when he went to drive off it made that sound again but then stopped until he applied the brakes again. Any idea what gear grinding sound is????? 2008 RXV 48 volt

Anyone have a clue what this could be? It comes from the drivers side mostly.

Possibly a wheel hub. They are splined to the axle shaft held on by a 13/16 nut with a cotter pin. They come loose and make noise.

Funny you just said that. We just pulled it off and looked at everything and put it back on plenty tight and still same sound.

Did you take a look at the wheel bearings? They are behind the hubs. I like to pull hubs off and clean the splines and use a bit of never seze on the splines and then I use my impact to tighten. Also in the past I've heard the disk inside the posi unit inside the rear end make noise.

Could the sound be coming from the brake itself, it is mounted on the end of motor on drivers side. Or are you thinking it is in the rear-end differential?

Well we have looked allover this cart. It is tore apart in my garage now.Axle bearings are good.Pulled of the rearend cover to look around noticed some metal material but nothing unusual. Had him run the motor while I took a look on the inside where the gears are at.It was making a lil gear chatter noise but it sounded like it was high up where thr gear is driven by the motor and I could put my hand on the motor and could feel a lil clunking.I have no idea at this point where to look. Cart runs fine but when you go to stop it makes that gear slipping over gear sound. Where is this disc in the posi unit at? I did'nt see that.

Have you taken the brake off the electric motor and taken a look at the brake itself? It is directly bolted to the rear of the motor and works a lot like a clutch unit. It can be removed and cleaned fairly easily I believe it is 3 bolts might be 4 and the electrical plug to disconnect.
