Rear Drum not spinning
I took off the rear drum and axle to see if my axle was bent after noticing some wheel wobble. I have put everything back together and the rear drum starts to spin but appears to get hung up and I can hear spinning when I hit the accelerator, but neither the drum nor the axle appear to be spinning. I can hit the brake, and then it will start to spin again and go for a second and then stop again. Its almost as if the brake got out of adjustment when I pulled it or the axle off? Any thoughts?

Re: Rear Drum not spinning
something you took apart wasn't put together the way it came apart, something in the rear end where the shaft connects to the diff.

Re: Rear Drum not spinning
Does the axle have to go in at a certain rotation? I stuck it in an turned and pushed until it went into place. Seemed to be right. Then I used the brake drum backwards to slide hammer until the bearing was flush with the hub, and the hammer and wood to take it beyond the detent. Snap ring, washer, brake drum, washer, castle nut. I think that's it (and cotter pin).
When I put the wheel on, it spins. I guess the force of the wheel overcomes the sticking points. It almost seems like the brake drum is offset slightly (due to the bend in the axle) and the brakes are engaging a substantial portion of the drum at a certain point causing the stick? Does that make any sense? The axle is not spinning when the drum stops, so I think the hub is fine, though as I keep working on it, I find it is harder and harder to get the castle nut back on without the drum moving. When you say hub, are you talking about this: http://www.shopezgo.com/products/4%2...roduct_id=3048 or the drum: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-Brake-H...2a6c11&vxp=mtr ? Also, I have a new axle on the way, so hopefully that will take care of everything. |
