88 ez go getting hot
My 88 ez go has started getting really hot after short usage. The wires going to and the controller or at least I think that's what it's called (4 Studs with cables on top in the middle off cart) would anyone know what might be wrong?

Re: 88 ez go getting hot
88 EZ is a resistor coil cart, you are describing the coil box..... they do get hot.

Re: 88 ez go getting hot
Mine is doing the same thing but it is also jumping/jerking each time we start out. Trying to figure out if that is what the problem is.

Re: 88 ez go getting hot
This cart is my dads and he uses it at the trailer, He is older and doesn't like to go fast. I told him that the resistor carts need to be driven wide open but with all the speed bumps there it's hard to do. He also was having trouble with it jerking when he starts it and sometimes not going at all if it was too hot so we replaced the resistor, and he tells me he has the same problems.
Could there be something else wrong or is this the way these old resistor carts run ? |

Re: 88 ez go getting hot
The gas peddle operates a speed wiper arm over a few copper speed selection buttons..... These buttons and wiper contact get pitted with use over time. Often operation can be improved with sandpaper to remove the pitting that occurs. Total replacement is best with new parts or better yet convert to modern solid state speed control and be done with the problem once and forever! See cartsunlimited.net
