Re: Another project
That is a great idea Bmatlock00. I've never thought of doing something like that but I like it. And it looks great so far. Looking forward to seeing more pics.

Re: Another project
Thanks B.Roussel, I can't take credit for the idea, I have seen a couple on here. The key is getting salvage cart cheap enough that you don't mind cutting the front end off. I will be putting an 8 pin trailer connector on my cart so when I plug the trailer in, it will connect the tail lights, brake lights, underglow, and speakers at the same time. I'm sure I will eventually put a back seat on the trailer also.

Re: Another project
Put a 48V pack in the trailer and parallel it with the one in your cart.
It'll give the people on the trailer a better ride and give your cart a long run-time. |

Re: Another project
JohnnieB, I have already been thinking about that, but wasn't gonna say anything until later in the build, but I was leaning toward putting 3 more 8v batteries in the trailer, so when i plug the trailer into the cart it would wire them in series with my 48v pack to give me 72v. I could charge each pack separate, since my charger charges 24 and 48 volts, no need for a new one. I would make a "jumper" to plug into the cart when the trailer is not connected to complete the 48v circuit. Can you think of any reason that this would be a bad idea?

Re: Another project
I was thinking about using something like this for the connection. Would the cable run be too long?

The cables between cart and trailer would be pretty long, so you'd have to use heavy cables. Every three numbers lower in the AWG number halves the resistance per foot. IE: A 5' 4Ga cable and a 10' 1Ga cable have about the same total resistance. The bulkhead or inline connector would have to be pretty healthy also. Probably a 200A or 300A rating. ------------ The problem I see is what are you going to use for a controller? An AXE4855 only goes up to 48V and an AXE7245 is only a 450A controller. However, there are SPM72500 and SPM72650 controllers that work from 24V to 72V, at 500A and 650A respectively. Also, the solenoid coil voltage would be an issue, but the control circuit can be wired to run on just the 48V pack. |
