Default 1996 Club car --Charging--other problems

I just bought a 96 club car 48volt. Charger does not want to turn off, and when it does it kicks back on after about 30 min or so. Also, the battey light comes on when sitting still, then when you go it turns off, Also, reverse buzzer only works about 1/4 of the time--Any ideas???

Batteries are a 1 1/2 years old, cables were replaced at the same time and are in good condition. I measured the voltage on each individual battery about 2 hrs after a charge and all the batteries are within .1 volt of eachother---around 8.3 volts.

this is odd for a 96 but i suspect your OBC might be going, it controls the chargeing and charge cycle but on that year when they go bad the cart won,t charge at all.......in 98 when the OBC starts failing it won,t shut the charger off but i would guess your dealing with a unit going out...........if you want to make certain if you can try your charger on another cart to see if it operates correct..................................

Shadowman is right. The OBC's going out are a common accurance. They have made several revisions over the years.

if you do decide to replace the OBC ( highly recommended ) you,ll get the latest updated version of it so you shouldn,t have any more issues with it, until you do keep an eye on batteries so you don,t ruin them......................

ok I have a 96 club car. When I plug the charger into the cart, the clicks on then I see the needle just jump to 20 and back down to 0 as if it tripped a breaker. We brought charger into shop and it checks oout good. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

When the OBC system is working properly, when you plug in the charger it will peg at 15-20, then turn off for a few seconds, then come back on and resume charging. This is the precharge 'check' that the OBC does. So are you saying that it comes on, then shuts off for good?
