1997 CC Gas wearing brushes unevenly

About a month ago I replaced the brushes and bearings of the SG and have run the cart for about 5 hours. Recently it has become hard to start. The selenoid clicks fine and I am getting 12 volts to the SG. So I removed the SG and found that 2 brushes are worn out, and the other two look brand new. The two worn ones are next to each other on the front and bottom of the SG. Anyone have any idea why brushes would wear unevenly and so quickly?

I had this happen to me recently on a Yamaha (same SG) I had replaced the brushes and all was good until the customer called me a week later with poor starting issues. I found one brush had snapped, another was worn down halfway and the remaining two were perfect. I put new ones in from a different supplier and it's been fine for the last four months. I figured it was maybe a bad batch. You did clean up or skim the commutator I assume ?

I polished the commutator with a scotch brite, but did not turn it on a lathe. Does skim mean turn on a lathe to make sure it is perfectly round?

Where did you buy the brushes that were good ones?

Yes Jim, that's the best way. It removes the wear ridge but if you don't have access to a lathe you can use one of your wifes emery boards. It drives em nuts but works very well.
I use this company. Great service and very reasonable pricing but the online catalog is a bit of a pain to navigate.

get new push down springs they are more than likely just weak...............................
