Default 1990 with no signal to start

i bought a 1990 gas club car DS i think, i bought it from my friend it was running fine until it started to get hard to crank when hot. the motor would not turn over when you push the gas pedal. he replaced the starter solenoid with a new one but wired it wrong and when i got it every thing was a mess. i followed the wiring diagram on the web site and everything is properly wired. my problem is what ever tells the starter solenoid to send current to the starter motor (across the big terminals) is not working. i can give the start side of the solenoid power from a power probe and the cart begins to crank but i do not have spark at the plug so it will not start. all micro switches test good and wiring seems to be correct. i need to know what would control start signal and ignition fire. thanks for the help and the site, Sam

ok if microswitches are good and engine grounds are good and you can jump solenoid and it cranks over..........replace solenoid theres nothing else there......as for spark that has nothing to do with solenoid so you more then likely have 2 problems...................1990 so it has no rpm limitor so as for spark its either coil, exitor coil or bad sparkplug/ plug wire or boot .........possible connection where coil plugs into exitor coil........find that connection its a small black almost triangler type make sure its a good tight connection...................................

thanks for your response i may have mis described what was going on i could apply power to the start side of the solenoid and it would crank over. but, i have fixed it in my own way tonight i re traced all wiring checking for continuity checked all micro switches and replaced them since they were so cheap everything seemed ok but there is a problem im over looking because it will not spin over with the gas pedal. so i put a universal switch on it and start it like a car turned the idle down for the trans and rode around. everything seems ok except the mosquito population took a big hit i will be doing a ring job soon thanks, Sam

i tested it and it worked fine i cant remember exactly but i think the purple wire was hot with key on and white wire got ground at key off i cant remember all but it seemed to work. i would like to know how to test the starter gen. and the voltage regulator because it does not charge.

Does your cart have a yellow wheel on the back of the shifter handle? If so is the high spot up when cart is in neutral? I'm almost wondering if your issue is that area. The yellow wheel pulls out and spins 180 degrees to put in service or run mode.

it has the wheel but i dont think its off center because when your in neutral its not up the switches are open i even took that micro off not the buzzer one but the three pole switch and used my hand to work it and no help. but it doesnt matter much now since i put the other switch on i just crank it up and turn it off when im done. i kind of like it better this way. just need to figure out the charging. ive got to put rings in so when i have the starter gen. off im going to have it checked out. thanks, Sam
