I need carb help - I think
My 88 club car will start and run about a mile, then it quits suddenly, like it ran out of gas. It won't start unless I pull on the linkage sitting on top of the carb. After that, it runs for a quarter mile or so, then does the same thing again.
Questions: What IS that linkage I'm pulling on? Do you think I have a carb problem? Fuel Pump? Neither? Thanks Mark |

Check the pulse line from the engine for oil in it.

Re: I need carb help - I think
I'm probably just going to replace the carb, but I will check for oil. Thanks. Oddly, I don't think this linkage moves when I step on the gas. Should it? The cart seems to either be stopped, or runs wide open. I don't really see anything move when I step on the peddle. I know very little about these things, but that seems odd to me.

Re: I need carb help - I think
It should definitely move when you step on the pedal. The cable comes out of the black plastic box under the air intake and pulls on the bottom of the throttle arm, the throttle arm at the top then pulls away from the carb, opening the butterfly to feed gas to the motor.
Here's a pic of where the throttle cable attaches to the linkage arm. |

Thanks. I figured it was supposed to move! (even I'M not that dumb - well maybe) I did loosen that cable in the black box when I lifted the cart, but I thought I put it back correctly. Maybe something pulled loose or got crimped. I'll check that. Thanks a bunch.

That hose (white arrow below) leads to the bottom of the stock vacuum fuel pump on the side of the gas tank. It's where the fuel pump gets it's vacuum pulse from. Are you running an electric fuel pump?

Re: I need carb help - I think
Springbok. With the holidays and all, I haven't had a chance to "work" on anything, but I did take a look at that throttle cable. It barely moves when I depress the pedal. It pulls on the spring a little, but doesn't move the arm or linkage at all. I'm not sure what's causing it, but there is DEFINITELY a problem there. Thanks!
