Default 91 Marathon Starter / Gen issues

I had issues with the starter/gen. Burned out the brushes and fried the armature. Had it rebuilt and in one weekend the starter is dragging in "Forward" gear. It spins fine in reverse. My question is, can the voltage regulator be causing the problem? That is the only component connected besides battery, solenoid, and switch. I am at a loss.

I am pulling what is left of my hair out. Thanks for the help.

if voltage regulator is putting out way to many volts ( they go bad that way also ) than yes it could be problem but it should also be burning up battery.............................

I will check and see if that may be the case. I noticed that the new lights I put on REALLY light up when I increase speed. Maybe it is overpowering.

may be an engine timing issue , after you get it started does it go a lot faster in foward than reverse or visa/ versa .
