Default 1996 Yam G14e won't go

Have '96 G14e. When go pedal depressed, cart "clicks" but doesn't move. After 3 days or so, it will move @100', stop, then only "click" again.

Backstory: Gift to father for 75th birthday. Used sparingly last few years. 6 years ago, he was pushing a heavy tool chest, held pedal down, cart quit.
Shop replaced controller, cart went slowly since then. Now it does the above symptoms. There are no shops in our area, I have above average mechanical skills, average electrical skills.

Would like to get it going again for him for his 90th birthday.

Any thoughts? Thanks, Brian

Might as well pull & check motor, it's 20 years old, and the cart quit under heavy load.

I agree, I think that's smart advice.

So when Pop killed it, the shop replaced only the controller, a diode, and battery cables. It's now an Alltrax Axe 4834. Everything else is original. This work was done Aug, 2013.

Since then it has run consistently, but much slower than as bought.
Only in the past year has it started to perform intermittently, if at all.

The batteries each show 6.2 volts, and as I said, the solenoid always click, it just usually doesn't move. I have the rear body off so I can get to everything.

Thanks for your help.

I never replace a controller without inspecting the motor. Often, a motor problem is a cause of controller failure.

Other than jacking car up and running motor (which I have done) what other motor tests can I do?

Is it possibly the solenoid? Although it click every time, it may not be making a consistently good contact internally.

Pull motor (label wires as removed), open motor up, check brush length, check for huge amounts of carbon dust, check commutator for smoothness.

Motor apart, no excessive dust, brushes are long, brush ends and commutator have corresponding grooves, bearing very smooth and silent, all looks good. No funny odor, I'll clean, smooth brushes/commutator and re-assemble.

Motor reassembled and reinstalled.
I'm trying to perform more tests, and am now testing the throttle sensor.
My ohm readout is not a very smooth curve, and it peaks at 781 ohm. Could this be a reason for the slow running cart? (when is does go)

I've looked at replacements, but most say "Use only with OEM controller only".

However, I have Alltrax 300a. controller.
Will this be a problem? Is there a h.p. sensor?

Thanks again.

780ish is low, and will cause slow running. (you are getting around 80% throttle) Stock sensor will work with alltrax. No HP sensors.

Now 1996 Yam G14e DOES go, just very slowly:

So I've re-assembled the cart and it's working fine. I:

Re-charged batteries (6.3 ea.)
Replaced battery cables with new 4 ga. set
Removed, cleaned, reinstalled motor.
Cleaned each and every wire connector.
Tested various components.

Now the performance:

Cart has Alltrax Axe 300 amp controller
Mild lift with larger tires.
Everything else totally stock.

Cart goes 11-12 mph. That's it.
Is that to be expected with this equipment, or am I missing something?
Was hoping it would go 15-16 range.

Thanks
