I completed the wiring and the speaker mounting in the console. The speakers I used were about 1/2 inch bigger than the holes so I set a scribe at 1/4 inch and scribed a mark around the housing. After several passes, I then cut slots every 1/2 inch or so and broke the sections out. It worked very well.

I've just done some wiring through there. You can get it through with the bolts in place but it's a bit of a fiddle. I sent a single stiffish wire through then taped the other to it and pulled it through.
