Default 84 marathon starter generator

I have a 1984 marathon. The cart starts great in forward and hesitates in reverse, any suggestions as where to start? I also managed to break a terminal while cleaning all my connections trying to find a bad connection that maybe causing this where can I either get a generator or generator parts?

Are you saying that you spun a stud, and broke the wire loose on the inside?

The wire is not loose inside to my knowledge, I was able to semi attach it and get my forward function back but nothing permanent! I was having my reverse issue prior to this though.

It could be brushes, a weak battery, or a bad connection.

Mine had a reverse hesitation, and a slight whine before the starter would turn in reverse.

I had corrosion inside of the positive cable where it couldn't be seen. Replaced it, and it spins much faster now with no hesitation.

Put a meter on your battery lugs. Step on the pedal, and watch for a voltage drop. You should only lose about one volt.

Now move the positive meter lead to the solenoid where the positive wire connects. Check for voltage drop there.

OK. The cart is at my camper will not be there for a few days. I was just trying to do some homework before I get back to the cart. I may start looking into a generator/starter though. It appears by the time I get a set of brushes if needed and piece what I have back together after snapping the stud I will be half way there. Thank you so much for your help!

Dig through this manual. Lots of good information in there.

I had the same exact issue as "Cart Around". I also replaced the battery cable between the positive battery terminal and solenoid and it fixed the issue i was chasing for two seasons.
