2001.5 EZGO TXT revs, but doesn't drive.
Ok folks I sure hope you can help me out on this one. Was driving the cart today and all seemed normal. Stopped for a minute at a friends house, went to take off and the cart wouldn't go. Engine revs, cart goes nowhere.
It's a 2001.5 TXT with a 295 Robins engine. I towed it home and checked a few things. Both the front and rear clutches appear to be working as they should. Front clutch pinches in, rear clutch moves out to switch gears. Belt is old, but is spinning the rear clutch and appears tight when the cart is in "drive" for lack of a better term. I might add that I was able to get the cart to go in reverse for a short bit, but it was revving hard and not going very fast. I could not get it to move forward at all. I am just not sure where to go next. I'm wondering if something broke or stripped within the drive gears of the rear differential. Is that all I can check next? I'm hoping I'm missing something as this looks like it could be a fairly expensive repair if I have to replace the rear end and axle. Would it be wise to change the drive belt just in case? I just don't know - everything appears to be turning, but maybe slipping under weight? Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks a lot in advance for your help. Signed - a somewhat sad EZGO owner :( |

Second the hub splines. It's usually the drivers side. Pull the wheel and brake drum off and check the splines on the hub. They're probably gone

Thank you guys very much for the replies. I will for sure give this a look. I know virtually nothing about golf carts so hopefully I can identify the part lol.

Thank you for pointing me to that thread. I'm just hoping this is a project I can tackle if this is my problem.

If you can take off a wheel and a brake drum, you can handle it
I use a long pry bar between a couple of the wheel studs and rest the handle on the ground. It will hold the hub still so you can break the nut loose in the middle. I've done that for years and never broken or bent a stud. Worst case if you do, they're cheap (couple bucks) and take 5 minutes to replace. |

Yes thank you. Looking at the pictures I thought the hub was referring to what I guess is the spindle. I now realize what the hub is - I'm a bit thick... I am a finish carpenter by trade and I rarely mess with cars, bikes, etc. Fortunately I've had pretty good luck with this cart, but I also try to maintain it well. Unfortunately this might have to wait until next weekend - my list of chores is long....

Re: 2001.5 EZGO TXT revs, but doesn't drive.
OK, here is an update. I took the rear wheels off and got the cart up on stands. When I give it gas the passenger side castle nut and male spline gear spin, but the wheel does not turn. On the driver side the wheel moves very slightly - the castle nut and gear does not turn at all unless the wheel is moving.
So I take it the passenger side at least is stripped. Would I also expect the driver side to be affected if it is not stripped as well? Should I change both if only one is stripped? Lastly, do you folks have a sponsor on the site that would be a good source of new brake hubs which would serve as an upgrade from the OEM? Thanks again for all your help. |

Slightly stripped... Link has the picture. Sorry don't know why it doesn't show up here when using the IMG tag. Last edited by rjwenter; 07-14-2019 at 11:13 AM.. Reason: trying to attach picture |
