2017 EZGO Valor turn signal install help!

Hey guys I’m new to the golf cart world and new to this forum. Go easy on me. I know the typical forum rule of searching for an answer before posting, I did that and found nothing. I just bought a 2017 Valor. Love it. Live on a island and doing the things necessary to get it street legal. I’m getting some different stories of how to install turn signals. Ezgo dealer is of course is the easiest with a plug and play switch but not easy on my wallet. The cart already has headlights with amber bulbs and tail lights. My friend who has a tx36 got a universal switch and made it work. Any reason why I can’t do the same and save myself 200$?? Please help
