Re: 1984 ezgo marathon engine replacement to atv engine
my guess is it'll be pretty close to what the honda was,(shaft drive, right) not sure of that cart's rear ratio, newer ones are 13 to 1. I would say that's pretty close to what the honda had. If you had the rear out of the honda you could mark, rotate, and count the ratio, or divide the theeth count to get it. same with the cart's rear. maybe it's ratio is listed by honda somewhere. knowing that then it's just the tire size difference if there the same or close to it.

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon engine replacement to atv engine
Well the Honda rancher rear end ratio is 3.769. That is right out of my Honda service manual. The atv went around 50 mph top speed with 24 inch tires. So you will have to do some figuring. Anyhow the engine is going to haul. I'm using that same engine and all the running gear, suspension and all. Pretty much stretched the atv frame and set the cart frame on top. Should be fun with 4x4 and everything. Hope you get it all figured out.

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon engine replacement to atv engine
little bit at a time!!!!!!!! The one pic is the honda u joint adapted to the golf cart rear spline piece...we ended up ruining a perfectly good drive clutch...LOL...drilled a 3/8" hole thru both pieces and then spot welded the center completely then run a weld completely around the whole shaft....

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon engine replacement to atv engine
The cart is looking real good. I am converting an electric 3 wheel cart to gas for a guy, (86 model) and have an engine out of an 85 4 wheel cart, but I don't have the starter, or any of the brackets for it. Would you be interested in selling any parts you wont use? Will Post pics, in another thread, dont want to hijack yours.
Thanks Earl |

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon engine replacement to atv engine
I might have one of those rear ends, I just went to look at it and realized it's upside down from the pics I had looked on the dana site so I didn't recognize it right off. I know it uses ezgo hubs (there a few different brand carts that use the same) anyway, I had counted the ratio once before by turning the pinion with the tire marked and I was thinking it was near a 6 to 1. it was not a very accurate way of checking, more so I'd have a guestamation of what it was.
it had some numbers on the center section 8535-18-x1 kinda leads me to believe it may just be a model 18 rear. I can check it out tomorrow when there's some light and try and figure it out for sure. |
