Default 86 G1 Fuel Pump issue?

Was running the cart today and had the top open. I was smelling fumes from
the tank. I noticed there was a pulsing from the vent opening (vent is
missing) so I put my thumb over the hole and it built up pressure.
Is my pump leaking internally?
Broken diaphram or something?
I thought I'd ask before I tear into it again.

The pulsing and pressure buildup felt at the vent on your fuel pump is normal. A leaking diaphragm would give you raw gas fumes, but would also have gas leaking out the vent. You could have a diaphragm going, but I would check all your fuel lines and connections for leaks and cracks before diving into the pump.

There isn't but one line attached to the tank, the supply line from tank to pump.
The only way I can see any air coming out of the tank is if the crankcase is pulsing air through the pump and into the tank.
Weird.

Sorry you hate message boards. The tank vent is a 1 way check valve, may want to install one and see what happens.

I'v eput that signature on every board I've ever been on.
Reason being, I get addicted to them and end up wasting hours
reading every one of them!

Is the valve to let pressure ecsape or to allow air into the tank?
Should the tank build pressure when running?
I diassembled the pump today and found no tears or leaks so I am
guessing it is operating normally.
