Default newbie 87 ezgo gas drive belt

Hey all, I have an 87 ezgo and it’s my first cart so im new to this. I am wondering if anyone knows the part number for a drive belt that is an inch shorter so I can increase my power for pulling up a hill, or if there is any other way that I could get more power. The speed is fine it runs great just lacking when it comes to hills. Thanks Josh

sorry it took so long to write back. i got the other belt in and it was too wide it looked like, it kept wanting to jump of the drive pulley on the rear end. i had to take it off and put my old belt on so i could ride it. any suggestions?

Just to clarify, the clutch that you are referring to is the one connected to the engine? One cause may be that the shorter belt puts a greater strain on the engine mounts and if they are worn then the engine will move allowing the belt to ride too high. I suggest that you put the axle on stands and start the engine to see if it moves.

Dave, From what I read it sounds like the new belt is jumping off the driven clutch attached to the rear end. Could this be caused by worn motor mounts?

That is what I didn't comprehend. Obviously the driven clutch should open up as soon as it starts to spin and the belt drop down not try to hop off. I hope that the answer is as simple as the new belt just being wider than the worn old belt and having the appearance of being too close to the top. Perhaps when the OP returns he will clarify the situation.

Someone is going to jump in and suggest that you really should start a new thread but.........

ROBIN
2-CYCLE
Champion L86C/130-161 or NGK B6HS/130-71 both will work and should be gapped at 0.0025"
