Re: Blown out crank seal again and again
Did you maybe put to much dumdum on the case halves and are not getting enough crush on the seals? GOOD LUCK

Re: Blown out crank seal again and again
Did you check the muffler , I blew a seal on the clutch side last year on my 83 when the muffler stopped up the pressure has to go somewhere when that happens , mine wasn't completely stopped but was about 75/80 % ,, I put the muffler in a campfire and emptyed it out the next morning . hasn't blown another seal YET

Re: Blown out crank seal again and again
the muffler is all clear, i thought the same thing so i put on a spare that is brand new so i know that isnt an issue. tho, i am thinking i may have seated the seal incorrectly. on the fan side of the motor, does the seal go from the inside of the case, behind the bearing, or from the outside, from behind the fan?

Re: Blown out crank seal again and again
they change from the outside , try cleaning the collar where it fits with alchol to remobe all oil residue but apply a little oil to the rubber inside edge .

Re: Blown out crank seal again and again
Ok, thats how I thought it went. I've been doing that right at least. I will try cleaning it a little better next time. I do know that the seal is tight when i seat it. I just can't understand why this keeps happening ever since i rebuilt it.

the gaps of the rings should be staggered or opposite each other

Re: Blown out crank seal again and again
I am sure they figured it out in the 8 years this thread has been dead. Rings are actually about 90° apart from each other and have pin locaters for proper alignment if it is a two stroke.
