Ausco brakes and axle removal
I'm trying to remove the axles on my 2007 Star car in order to install Ausco disc brakes. I was told that there might be an ex-Star mechanic that is on here regularly. I'm feeling the pain of no info, manuals, etc. for Star carts! My axle has no castle nut or snap ring. It has a metal bracket held on by 4 bolts. Does this retain the axle or is there a pin or a keeper inside the differential or maybe I just need a slide hammer or what? It's pretty hard to show in pictures but I'll try. Thanks Scott

Re: Ausco brakes and axle removal
One of the experts should be able to help.
Until then, it there a manufacture name or any numbers on the rear end? Might be easier to search for answers that way. |

4 bolts and gold ring retains axle & bearing. Remove 4 bolts & pull harder...

Re: Ausco brakes and axle removal
Thanks Revolution and cgtech. That did the trick. I hate not having a manual. Now, I dont see how the gold retaining ring is going to work with the disc brake backing plate. The gold retaining ring has to go on first to retain the axle but then the backing plate doesn't fit over it. On the rest of the carts, the backing plate would bolt right up to the axle flange. Might be question for Scotty b or Ausco? Scott

Re: Ausco brakes and axle removal
From what I can tell from the pictures I would make some spacers to go between the bearing retainer and the break bracket.

If the calipers will fit the rotor that way

Re: Ausco brakes and axle removal
I'm still waiting for a return call from Ausco. It seems like the only way for the rotors to fit is like the picture. Then maybe a u shaped spacer to drop in from the top to hold the bearing in place. Revolution, is this what you had in mind?
