91 EZ-GO Marathon Runs in Reverse ONLY

I have a 1991 EZ-GO Marathon. Recently took its longest hilly trek since purchase. After driving for 20 min non-stop cart stopped for no apparent reason on a hill. Costed backwards to level area. After switching from forward to reverse and back a couple of times cart would move farward again. Decided we should head home. This happen two more time before cart stopped running forward all together. It would still run in reverse though. Drove the cart home in reverse about 1 mi.. Im new to this so any input on where to start trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check F/R switch assembly for obvious signs of heat.
Check cables to motor. Check all cables for that matter, give each one a good tug and twist. Is this a controller cart or resistor cart?

I've worked on this cart with Chanook. It's a controller cart.
