89 Marathon leaks gas floods out now won't start at all
We bought a 1989 marathon and owner said it was just leaking gas out the carb. We saw that when we picked it up and upon inspection at home the float pin posts were broken off. We purchased a new carb from Amazon and replaced it but had the same problem. After reading a few forums I found that this one had a different fuel pump than what came with it original so I bought a new one of those just in case it was a torn diaphragm or something. I put it up on stands and it would start and rev up real nice then bog out and die and you could see gas dripping out of carb where the air intake hose would go. I could play around with the pliers squeeze let go squeeze let go and keep it running for a while. Any other time I would just think it is a needle/float issue but this is a brand new carb and I have played around with the float level some to no avail. Any suggestions?

It is flooding for some reason . Either float it stuck or pump is too powerful and forcing gas through , have seen that before on other small engines

It could also be bad reed valves forcing gas the wrong direction.

I just had the same problem with a new carb pull the hose off the bowl vent on top of the new carb the vent hole is on the side of the brass tube.
I would get rid of the oil pump and pre mix the oil with the gas . |

So I hope that was all it was Charles thanks.. I actually got it to rev up and reverse out of the garage but only at like .5mph it appears the main clutch is not engaging now so anyone know what to do with that.

so far so good I took off that overflo hose that was hanging there and it is running every time now. I finally got the Clutch to engage still need to take it off and service it. You can see the shaft has light rust and needs a good emery cloth taken to it and it will probably slide just right. It does engage enough to test it out in the driveway now. Does anyone know how fast these are suppose to go. 1989 EZGO Marathon?
