Default Yamaha Drive/G29 Parking Brake engages when coming to hard stop

Without pressing the P Brake in the upper left of the brake pedal the latch catches into the parking brake when coming to medium to hard stop. I don’t see an adjustment for the latch. Other than the bolt that pushes up to release the parking brake once you press the gas pedal( which I adjusted so it unlatches smoother).

Where do I adjust so the parking brake doesn’t engage when it’s not supposed ? At the front of the pedal? Where your heel would be? And actually adjust the brake cables themselves?

The J rod is also in place with the spring but I don’t see any function when u press the brake. What is it supposed to do as well?

The P should be spring loaded so it doesn't engage unless you push it. Is the spring there and functioning properly?

I am goin to post pictures in a few minutes. But it is spring loaded. It works when you press the P and when you just press the brake alone

Here's a couple photos of my assembly.

The other day I noticed the spring(1 had fallen off of the J Rod (21). You can see how I reconnected it. I couldn't get an answer or find a photo of its proper placement. So I placed it as best I could with the diagram. That's really the only way I could get it to fit.

But as far as function goes....when you press the P portionof the pedal it will engage the parking brake via the latch and it also moves the J Rod (21) but I don't really see what the actual function of the rod is????

So Id like some help please with adjusting so the regular brake doesn't latch the Parking function and also maybe an explanation of the function of the J Rod.....if I have it connected correctly or not?? Maybe a picture of someone's brake assembly area on a Yamaha Drive/G29....

Any help as always thank you!

You have the rod in the wrong location. The "flag" on the side needs to be under the pawl with all the teeth on it. And the hook at the bottom needs to be flipped around to the other side of the piece of metal it's up against now move towards the driver side. I'll see of I can draw on your pictures to "clear it up".

I think I gotcha……

like this???
makes much more sense now haha.

The J grabs the Rectangular Hook when parking is engaged and the Rod rests behind the metal bar hook with the plastic bushing that's around it and the flag is just a stopper when not engaged.

Now the J Rod is canted down and in to the left( in towards the brake pedal base. Explains why the floor cover plate was so tight to try and put down before.

Everything look good? The small spring sits right below the flag correct?

Thank you thank you!!

It was kinda hard to explain, but you got it right.

The Yamaha brake pedal latch is a well engineered system, it is tricky with all it's parts, but it's design is largely unchanged from the G1 days, and is still the most reliable one you will find. Them tricky Yamaha engineers knew what they were doing.
