Question Wide vs narrow tires

Quick question that i cant seem to find an answer to. Do wider tires require more torque to get started rolling? The reason i ask is i have a 2016 ezgo txt 48v all stock and was going to put a lift on and was going to upgrade tires to 22”. I have choice between 22x11 or 22x9.5. I want the one that will require the least energy to get rolling and keep rolling. Any advice?

In general the heavier your wheel and tire combo is the more energy it takes to get them up to speed so your acceleration will be slower. This is true for both ICE and electric cars where the more popular large diameter rims cost speed and MPG.

For the specifics the distribution of weight is more critical with having the weight farther from the center being worse. Because of this the weight increase of having a wider tire over a narrower tire would have the most detrimental effect but I am not sure if it is enough for you to actually notice.

I really don't think you will notice a difference on hard ground.

Make sure you get high pressure tires. The riding mower tires aren't meant to handle the weight and 12psi or less will slow your cart and reduce your range.

Excellent point. The ones I plan on are max psi of 20
