Default 1987 driven clutch disassembly

I was wondering if any of those who have shimmed the driven clutch on a 87 marathon could give me some insight? I have the clutch off, but was expecting to compress the helix, and remove a snap ring. The end of the clutch has an Allen screw, which I assume has to be removed. My question is after I remove the Allen screw, whate next? Is there spring tension that will make pcs. fly? Any tips on getting it apart?

Yes there is so be careful. You need to make a compressor tool and get in place to hold the tension. Now undo the Allen key and gently release the compressor. The sheave may be stuck to don't unwind the compressor too far and give the clutch a little tap with a mallet.

Well.....I got it apart. Set screw came out, then I used a 3 jaw puller to pull the helix. Fyi....I shimmed the driven with a 3/8" shim, and it still didn't seem to help the low end much. I then shimmed the drive clutch with a 1/8 shim, and left the driven clutch shim in. The low end seems quite a bit better...the rpms stay up. The top end isn't where I think it should be though. I only get 16/17 mph. I think I am going to try switching the 3/8 to a 1/4 on the driven. I am thinking a new belt might help too...?
