Default My 1st cart. 88 EZGO I need some serious help

Ok here we go.

This thing has been more of a headache then I would have ever thought. Apparently the 1988 is some sort of one off model. I am praying that you guys can help me out with my questions.

1st of here is my cart.

Secondly. WTF is this? It fell out of the (clutch housing?) and I have no idea what it is.

Next is the belt drive. Do you know why this is so loose? IT almost hangs to the ground and I can touch the belt completely together.

Now for the hub. I guess it is a hub?
I am guessing that centrifugal force pushes out the three little arms and tightens the drive belt? If that is incorrect please inform me.

My question is....
Is this what it is supposed to look like? Those things that fell out of it when I took it apart aren't burned out rollers or something are they?

Finally...
Do any of you know where a microfiche is for parts on this thing? I would like to see if I am missing anything and be able to order parts if need be.

I cannot find a site that has a microfiche on the 1988 EZGO gasser for parts.

Anything you all can answer will be helpful to me.

That stuff looks like some crushed/melted clutch buttons, the belt is probably the wrong one, look for some numbers on the belt and post them, and if no numbers measure it, this is what you are supposed to have.

1 3/16" x 45 1/2"
OEM # 23557-G1

YEs the engine turns over and will run.

I have not had it running smoothly yet but I did fire it up and run it for a couple seconds just to make sure it wasn't locked up.

As for the belt. I will check the number. I do know that it said EZGO on it.

Ok. Checked the belt and it is old

Looks like it says
EZ GO CAR 23557 CT DAYCO

Appears to be the correct belt.

What are clutch buttons? From the pics I posted does it look like anything is missing?
Do you have any links to a microfiche of the buttons?

I need to make sure everything is correct inside before I put it back together.

I started the engine with the cover off and everything appeared to work correctly. The arms raised up and pushed the pulley in.

and what size battery does this thing take? It did not come with one
I used my car battery and it would not turn over.
The only way I can get it to turn over is with my battery charger on boost

I believe it's a group 26 battery, yes a car battery. must of been a cable problem or bad connection for it not to starrt.
In most all cases when parts start removing themselves from the clutch it's time for a new one. even if you wanted to try and rebuild it I don't think you can get the parts for it. looked kinda like the weights to me.
belts probably shot too

What is a group 26 battery?

What do the weights look like? Is there a microfiche for it anywhere?

I was thinking weights also.

The weights are in the Clutch correct?

What is this part called? This is what those pieces fell out of.

The clutch is the thing with a white cover on it isn't it? Isn't that what the roller weights are in?

Not the best picture but is this the clutch?

That is not a 1988. Exhaust is different. Or at least it is not a 1988 exhaust. The exhaust on a 88 goes acrossed the back. The two pipes that are under the hitch go to the mufller that runs acrossed the back. Looks like you need a new or different clutch and belt. Good luck.
