1995 EZGO goes forward while in reverse

My 1995 ezgo (DCS) has been acting up lately. When I switch it into reverse and push the gas pedal the cart goes forward. I hear the clicking from the controller but the cart goes the wrong way. Works in forward ok. I haven’t changed any wires not sure what the problem is.

DCS, the controller does the directional switching..... sounds like your controller is on its way out

I was afraid of that. I will look online for a replacement controller. How hard is it to replace? What should a replacement cost? Thanks again for your help

They are not cheap. $250-300? They can be rebuilt. Are there any modifications to the cart? Tires? Rear seat? Cargo box?

I do have a rear seat will that make a difference

YEp, The seat alone weighs like a passenger and then if you seat 2 more in the rear you have increased the load significantly .... Original controller is meant for 2 people and clubs..... You should consider an aftermarket controller like Alltrax DCX

ScottyB, thanks for your information. I just ordered an Alltrax 400DCX controller. My original controller was fried. What do I need to install the new controller? Do I have to make alterations? Do I need to replace anything or just install the new controller?

You need a higher capacity solenoid to use with that controller the orig is 100amp, you need a 200amp like W/R 586. You will also have to replace the battery cables to the controller with 4 ga wire to the max out of it. There are 2 about 24" and 1 about 5" long. The motor cables are already 4g. Your cables from battery to battery should be 4g also. This will allow 400 amps to flow TO the controller.... I just finished up on one of these yesterday. It hauls ash! Be careful with the motor running wide open downhill, you can over rev it and explode it if you just stand on the peddle... so use a little caution. Ours came out real strong on the hills and faster. Do get a new diode and resistor for the solenoid too.

p.s. You will have to cut the controller environmental cover in half & reinstall only the top half...

Scotty, I finally got all the parts in and started to replace the controller and solenoid. While swapping out the wires I found one directly under the solenoid that was burnt. Is this still good? Do I still need it? Thanks

Diodes are cheap, get yourself a 1 amp or 3 amp diode, you are replacing everything else.
