Re: 1989 EZGO 2 Cycle Carb
Actually this is all rather good news. If the cart runs once the carburetor bowl is full then you are generating enough crankcase pressure to move fuel from the carburetor to the crankcase and then to the cylinder. Ergo your crankcase seals are doing their job and you can breathe a sigh of relief.
Blowing into the gas tank has tested the pick up tube and the fuel lines so that is good. That leaves the pump itself. You say that you had it rebuilt which is a little odd as no one rebuilds these things. The kit cost $28 but a new pump costs $33 so I suspect that someone may have taken it apart and cleaned it out. This can lead to the diaphragm (which gets brittle with age) just giving out. Now I hate to tell people what to do with their money but if it were my cart I would order up a new pump and be done with it. You can get them on line and my favorite supplier is www.everythingcarts.com (but you can go wherever you like). Finally can the compression decrease greatly when the engine is warm? Well I can't think of any circumstance where that would happen, but in any case that is not your issue as it is clear that your cart is running until it runs out of fuel. Dave |

Re: 1989 EZGO 2 Cycle Carb
Just wanted to let you know that I took your advice and bought a new fuel pump from Everything Carts. Solved the problem. Lesson to be learned: don't rebuild fuel pumps, buy a new pump.
Next problem in my little money pit EZGO...Clutch. P.S. I was formerly AJKOOCH, but I had to change my details. |

Another happy ending, you gotta love it when that happens.

Can the clutch be adjusted? It seems to be slipping. The belt squeals in reverse. Motor doesn't lose power going up hills, but doesn't have jam.

Re: 1989 EZGO 2 Cycle Carb
Depending on the model of your clutches the drive clutch is sealed but the driven can be dismantled and repaired. However it is more likely that your belt is worn. It should be 1 3/16th inch wide. If it is 1 1/16th or less then it is time for a new one.
