Default starting problem

my 1997 gas ezgo will only start when i hookup a booster battery. i have put in a new battery but it still does it. after the first start it is fine, starts every time until it sets overnite, then same thing. could it be a starter problem? it turns a little faster with the booster battery. or could it be the coil or what. thanks for your help.

Welcome to BGW!!,
I would check and then double check all of your battery cables, connections, ends before you buy anything. Sounds like you have the volts there but the amps are getting corrosion choked somewhere in line.
Do not overlook the ground cable(s).
If all of them check out good, check your starter brushes.

Hook up a volt metter and watch the voltage while the eng is running,,, 12.6volts before starting,,,, stays above 10 volts while in the starting mode,,, and 13 to 14.8 while running at normal driving speed.

ok thanks just looking at the brushes thru the holes they look like they are all the way down in the holders. the springs will slide over the top of them easily. would you think they are worn out. i will check the cables first. also i get 12.7 volts on the battery and 14.3 after it starts if this helps you any. thanks again.

those reading indicate that the startarater is working,,,, I've heard that the brushes have "wear" marks on them,,, if you don't see the wear marks then they may be short.
when you "jump" your car,,,,, whare are you putting the jumper leads?? if you are putting the ground on the eng,,, it may indicate the ground wire is bad... try putting the jumper cables on the golf car battery terminals,,, and see if you get the same results
