You need to use one that is designed for a 2-stroke engine. The design of the muffler or expansion chamber is part of the engine tuning mechanism. It's shape, length, diameter etc. creates back-pressure and vacuum that aids in the intake and exhaust stokes of the engine. I would stick with a stock one on a stock engine. Just my .02c worth, good luck.

Re: So can you use any muffler on a 2 cycle EZGO
true dat
if you put a different exhaust on there the engine will not perform correctly. they may be too little or too much back pressure which will cause your cart to go to slow. The nerds at ez-go computed exactly how much space the engine needs behind it (exhaust) in order to work properly. That volume is a fixed volume. Personally, i don't want to spend the 200 bucks for a new exhaust for my 81 2cycle marathon. The one on there now is off a motorcycle from pick and pull. Even though it looks **** good, i have no power uphill. One of my buddies recommended talking to the local snow mobile shop/motorcycle shop and asking them what exhaust would work on the 244cc robin engine (correct me if im wrong anyone). Not that they would know what the 244cc robin engine was, but saying 244cc would get them close to finding a 2 cycle match. If i wanted low end or high end power they would give (sell) me the correct muffler. With some welding i can take the factory header and hook it up to the new exhaust. Good luck |

Phew that was close, I was ready to cut off the coffee can and put on just any old muffler. I never thought of the snowmobile shop, I will check into that, thanks.

agree i would assume you could modify any 2-stroke exhaust to fit, i am running a banshee exhaust with the silancer. the person who owned it before me did this mod, of course after season at the river i have found that brackets (braces) are needed to stabalize the muffler in place.

The 2 stokes vibrate excessively and frequently break welds n such
