89 2 stroke regulator burning red wire

red wire d+,green df,black wire d-, but its burning red wire inside regulator, as soon as the engine starts it burns the wire. any ideas....shag

it's got to be hooked up wrong then would be my guess

thought about that, went off diagram i got that i got from here, traced all wires. they went where they were supposed too. the wire inside v.r. is a very thin wire, was wondering if it was a factory F.U.,. the old one at least had (maybe) a 18 g wire in it....but, was not burnt? there's nothing in the starter/generator that could go wrong like this is there? i mean , it either works or not, right? Ill recheck my wiring just to be sure.....shag
